Pearson Digital Learning Enhances NovaNET® Courseware with New World History Lessons

Leading Online Curriculum System for Middle & High School Learners Adds Multimedia Enhanced Lessons in Language Arts, Social Studies and Mathematics

Scottsdale, Arizona — January 13, 2006 — The first-ever national assessment of world history is scheduled to be given to 12th grade students in 2010 as part of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), also known as the "Nation's Report Card." To help schools better prepare students in this increasingly important subject area, Pearson Digital Learning has expanded its NovaNET online courseware system with 23 new world history lessons as well as 48 newly enhanced multimedia lessons in language arts, social studies and mathematics. NovaNET is an award-winning, online, standards-based curriculum and assessment system for middle school, high school and adult learners.

The 23 new world history lessons, commonly known as the "World History B" course, complete a full semester course of study. The course covers the Age of Enlightenment through modern day, and includes contemporary topics as such globalization, human rights and modern science. To engage students' interest and enhance the learning process, the lessons incorporate extensive multimedia features including photos, animated maps, timelines, and interactive exercises.

"The new world history course is particularly exciting because it concludes with modern history lessons about various regions around the world and current issues. Students and teachers will find the content engaging and relevant to what they see happening around the world — from China to the Middle East to Latin America and Africa," said Denise Gillis, Pearson Digital Learning's senior product manager for NovaNET.

The new world history lessons round out a full year course of study, totaling 45 lessons comprised entirely of multimedia content. The full year course also contains 150 interactive activities, 2,300 assessment items and 200 glossary terms.

As with all NovaNET lessons, the new world history lessons are aligned with state and national standards. The lessons provide students with immediate feedback specific to the activity and student response to reinforce key learning concepts, provide enrichment, and motivate students as they progress through the course.

In addition, the NovaNET v12 includes 48 new multimedia- enhanced lessons in language arts, social studies and mathematics, with modernized graphics and a more attractive and intuitive interface.

The NovaNET system offers cross-platform compatibility with Microsoft® Windows® or Macintosh® operating systems. NovaNET is continuously upgraded and enhanced throughout the year, providing customers with the newest courseware and latest technology to meet the needs of today's schools.

This NovaNET release, consisting of two CDs and support materials, shipped at no additional charge to all current NovaNET subscribers this month. Customers may deploy the new lessons, as well as the entire NovaNET library of multimedia lessons, from the CDs or from Pearson Digital Learning's Community Connection support website.
