Waterford Early Math & Science™ And KnowledgeBox® Recognized As "Best of the Best" In Educational Computing
Scottsdale, Ariz.—October 18, 2005—The Waterford Early Math & Science™ program and the KnowledgeBox™ digital learning system from Pearson Digital Learning have been named winners in the prestigious Technology & Learning 2005 Awards of Excellence program. Pearson Digital Learning is the leader in proven, comprehensive technologies for preK-12 education.
In its 23rd year, the 2005 Awards of Excellence program recognizes innovative applications that break new ground in some important way and also best-of-breed examples that demonstrate clear superiority over similar products in the K-12 education market. This year's winners were chosen by more than 30 educator-judges who evaluated the more than 130 entries for quality and effectiveness, ease of use, creative use of technology, and suitability for use in a school environment.
An industry leader for more than 40 years, Pearson Digital Learning (PDL) won two awards in this year's program, an Award of Excellence for its Waterford Early Math & Science Levels 2 & 3, and a Legacy Award for the KnowledgeBox digital media system.
Waterford Early Math & Science fosters hands-on exploration and inquiry-based learning, giving students a solid foundation in basic math skills and science content as well as creative problem solving. The introduction of Levels Two and Three for first and second grade students follows the successful implementation of Level One in preschool and kindergarten classrooms across the country. Using research-based software that adapts to the student's learning pace, each of the program's three levels provides a full year of daily instructional activities, as well as take-home books, videotapes, CDs, and audiocassettes to extend the learning process.
In its second year, the "Legacy" award category recognizes entrants that have received favorable reviews and recognition in past years, and whose current versions are determined by the judges to show continued innovation and benefit to educators. Pearson Digital Learning's KnowledgeBox is the industry's first K-6 digital learning system for reading/language arts, math, science and social studies. It provides immediate and centralized access to a rich resource of standards-based digital media content, empowering educators to quickly and easily integrate technology and high-quality core instructional content into their curriculum. KnowledgeBox received a Technology & Learning Award of Excellence in 2002.
Technology & Learning (www.techlearning.com), published by CMP Media LLC, San Francisco , Calif. , is the number one publication in the K-12 educational technology market.
