Press Releases

Web-based student performance data system will help
districts
make data-driven decisions to meet AYP goals
Mesa, Ariz. — Nov. 6, 2003 — The No
Child Left Behind Act and Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)
requirements have left K-12 school districts searching for a
centralized solution for the storage, validation, and querying
of student data from a wide variety of sources. Answering that
call, Pearson Digital Learning today announces Concert™ Inform,
a Web-based student performance/data analysis system that will
allow schools, districts, and state administrators to aggregate
and disaggregate student performance results from a wide variety
of tests, and provide the information they need to help meet
AYP requirements.
With the addition of Concert Inform, Pearson Digital Learning
will offer the most comprehensive student performance management
solution suite in the preK-12 education market, with student information,
instructional management, curriculum and instruction, assessment,
and now a data analysis and decision support system.
Concert Inform is based upon the Scholar Suite web-based data
management system from Scholar Inc., which was recently acquired
by Pearson Education. In addition to immediate access to one of
the industry's best service and support organizations, Pearson
Digital Learning is adding feature and service improvements to
take the system to the next level with its release in early 2004.
The easy-to-use, Web-based tool, which complements Pearson Digital
Learning’s SASIxp™ student information
system and Concert™ Instruction & Assessment,
will help districts unleash the value of their students’ and
schools’ information and bolster data-driven decision making.
With Concert Inform, administrators and educators can capture,
share and report meaningful data, and make informed decisions to
maximize student achievement, teacher effectiveness, and overall
school improvement. The system warehouses a variety of student
and assessment information, including student demographics, state
tests, standardized tests, district tests, and more. It allows
districts and schools to view performance data at the district,
school, classroom, and individual levels against target benchmarks,
such as AYP goals. In addition, it enables districts and schools
to easily aggregate and disaggregate the data based on NCLB and
state requirements.
“School districts today must collect more data than ever
before, in greater detail, and disaggregate the data to show which
schools and students are making progress,” said Jack Lynch,
president and CEO of Pearson Digital Learning. “But the job
hardly stops there, which is why Pearson Digital Learning is so
perfectly poised to help districts with their AYP needs. No one
else can offer as complete a solution, providing the means to collect,
store, analyze, and report the data, as well as develop and deliver
the instruction that will help achieve the desired results."
Indeed, Concert Inform’s ease of use, combined with its
high level of integration with Pearson Digital Learning’s
products, will allow school districts to comply with the increased
accountability requirements of NCLB. For example, student information
and test scores can be tracked in SASIxp or Concert Instruction & Assessment
to meet NCLB reporting requirements. The Concert Inform data-driven
decision tool can be used to analyze the test scores by each of
the six disaggregated categories required for AYP reporting and
provide a report of students in need of remediation. Based upon
the test results, Concert Instruction & Assessment can
be used to adjust the teacher lesson plans, and the SuccessMaker® Enterprise, NovaNET®, Waterford
Early Reading Program™ or Waterford
Early Math & Science™ program can be used to provide
instruction for students needing additional help. This combination
of tools will assist customers in meeting the AYP goals established
by their state and meet the ultimate goal of helping students learn.
Concert Inform will be deployed as an Application Service Provider
solution or as a locally deployed solution. Version 1.0 will be
released in early 2004.
