Highly Regarded System from Pearson Digital Learning Includes New NCLB Briefcase with Tools to Improve Accountability
and Efficiency
MESA, Ariz. — June 26, 2003 – Thanks to the accountability
requirements of the No
Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, the need for
compatible assessment, record-keeping, and reporting systems has
become paramount for K-12 schools and districts. To help them meet
NCLB reporting requirements and improve efficiency from the classroom
to the district office and even the state department of education,
Pearson Digital Learning today announces the newest release of
its flagship student information system, SASIxp 5.5.
The cross-platform SASIxp (Schools Administrative Student Information
system) is one of the most widely used student information systems
in K-12 education, used in more than 16,000 schools nationwide.
And when integrated with Pearson Digital Learning's new Concert™ Instruction & Assessment
online education community, educators have a complete NCLB solution
that
allows them to pinpoint areas needing improvement, design individual
learning programs, and then apply targeted instruction, all through
one seamless, integrated system.
The new SASIxp 5.5 debuts this week at the 2003 National educational
Computing Conference (NECC) in Seattle.
SASIxp 5.5 features the new NCLB briefcase, providing districts
and schools with a quick and easy resource to help meet NCLB and
Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) reporting requirements. With SASIxp
5.5, users can capture, aggregate, and disaggregate data at the
school and district levels for the following required reports:
- Academic Assessment/AYP report cards for schools and districts
- Individual Student Academic Assessment Report Card for parents
- Title IV Safe and Drug Free Schools reports
- Graduation and Drop-out Rate Report for schools
- Teacher/Staff Qualifications Report for schools and districts
- Teacher/Staff Qualifications Report Card for parents
- Title III Immigrant Funding Report
Data in the reports can be grouped and reported by each of the
six disaggregated categories required for AYP reporting: Ethnicity,
Gender, ELL (English Language Learner), Economically Disadvantaged,
Disability, and Migrant Status. Data can also be grouped by student,
school, and district for AYP reporting.
To provide districts and schools with additional flexibility,
several new reports offered in SASIxp 5.5, including new discipline
reports for NCLB reporting, were created with Report Designer.
Report Designer, a module introduced last year with SASIxp 5.0,
significantly expands the system’s report design and deployment
functionality. Using state-of-the-art, Java™-based reporting
software from Jinfonet Software, Report Designer gives schools
and districts access to a wide variety of report templates, and
the ability to easily copy and customize reports to suit their
individual needs.
"On its own SASIxp offers superior capacity and capability,
allowing schools, districts, and even states to easily manage student
data. Combine it with Concert Instruction & Assessment and
you've got a solution that provides districts with the ability
to meet AYP requirements and provide reporting to prove the results.
No one but Pearson Digital Learning could offer the power of such
a comprehensive solution," said Phil Schlesinger, product
manager at Pearson Digital Learning.
Heralded by District Administration magazine as the top new Internet
product for K-12 education, Concert Instruction & Assessment
brings state standards together with aligned instructional content,
including lesson plans, test items, and instructional resources.
It also provides teachers with the tools they need to monitor student
progress against these standards. As a result, educators gain the
ability to provide each student with a comprehensive mastery prescription,
and to target instruction and resources directly where the student
needs the greatest assistance.
Using SASIxp 5.5 with Concert Instruction & Assessment, administrators
can validate district-wide performance and apply improvement programs
at school, subgroup, and individual levels to increase AYP. Once
these programs are in place, SASIxp 5.5 can produce the reports
necessary to demonstrate student progress based on longitudinal
data.
In addition to the NCLB briefcase, SASIxp 5.5
provides several new features to help districts and schools improve
accountability and efficiency.
Using the enhanced Extended Test History application, schools
can now import historical test data from standardized or state
tests, such as high school exit exams, and print the test scores
directly on student transcripts. This not only helps improve reporting,
but increases communication with parents and other stakeholders,
such as colleges and universities, about student progress toward
state requirements.
To help schools reduce paperwork, SASIxp 5.5 introduces a “Paperless
Attendance” feature. With this feature, a log is created
when any attendance record is added, edited, or deleted in the
daily attendance or period attendance applications. This allows
schools to maintain an attendance audit trail while eliminating
the need for attendance verification rosters.
The cross-platform SASIxp is an easy-to-use, comprehensive student
information system that helps administrators and teachers monitor,
track, and report on student data and progress. SASIxp manages
extensive information at both the school and district levels, giving
educators instant access to student demographics, attendance, discipline,
grades, schedules, health data, immunization history, emergency
contacts, parent/guardian information, and more. SASIxp is part
of Pearson Digital Learning's xp series™ solution suite,
a series of integrated offerings that work together to help schools
and districts streamline administrative tasks.
