Sophisticated Instruction and Assessment Systems
to Help District Track Student Achievement
MESA, Ariz. — April 28, 2003 — Cincinnati Public Schools
has chosen Pearson Education Technologies (formerly NCS Learn)
to provide a comprehensive instructional management system that
will help teachers assess and track student achievement, save time
on administrative tasks, and increase parental involvement. The
$1.27 million purchase from Pearson Education Technologies includes
installation of instruction, assessment, and data management systems.
“In the past, most of our schools tracked student progress
toward academic standards in a fragmented manner, using paper and
pencil or electronic grade books,” said Jennifer M. Wagner,
director of student information systems. “Pearson Education
Technologies offered us a robust system that is well integrated.
We’re very excited to be able to add new tools to help teachers
be more successful in helping students learn, allow them to spend
more time with students, and provide immediate feedback to parents.”
As part of the purchase, Cincinnati Public Schools will implement
three instructional products from Pearson Education Technologies:
the NCS ABACUSxp™ instructional management system, MCADxp™ Model
Curriculum and Assessment Database, and Educational
Structures™ Web-based
lesson plans and teacher resources. NCS ABACUSxp and MCADxp allow
teachers to manage standards-aligned curriculum, provide instructional
resources and assessments, and measure student performance against
district or state curriculum objectives. Educational Structures
enables teachers to engage students with motivating activities
and resources while providing standards-aligned instruction.
In addition, the district will implement three student information
solutions which will be linked to the SASIxp™ school
administration and student information system, the hub of Pearson
Education Technologies’ xp
Series™ software solutions suite. The xp Series is
a suite of cross-platform applications that work together to help
streamline
administrative tasks. Cincinnati Public Schools first
implemented the SASIxp system four years ago.
The CLASSROOMxp™ student information application for SASIxp
allows teachers to display student pictures in seating-chart order,
take attendance, and view student demographic information as well
as schedules, grades, test scores, and course history from the
desktop. The InteGrade® Pro Web-based teacher grade book helps
teachers keep track of grades, attendance and seating charts, while
the ParentCONNECTxp® home-to-school collaboration software
allows parents to enhance their involvement by keeping track of
their children’s academic progress online via an easy-to-use
Web site customized for each school. Parents can also easily communicate
with teachers via e-mail or receive automatic e-mail notification
of unexcused absences, missing assignments, or failing grades.
Cincinnati Public Schools will roll out the new instruction, assessment,
and data management systems over the next two years, with classroom
use beginning in the 2003-04 school year.
With some 42,000 kindergarten-through 12th-grade students and
79 schools, Cincinnati Public Schools is the third largest school

or exceed the district’s high academic standards.
