Press Releases

MESA, Ariz. — September 16, 2002 — NCS Learn, a business
of NCS Pearson, today announced the release of new multimedia lessons
for its NovaNET comprehensive courseware system,
an online, standards-based curriculum and assessment system designed
specifically for middle and high school learners. The result of
more than 30 years of research, NovaNET ensures accountability by
linking educators with progressive technology, standards-based curriculum,
and proven teaching methods to prepare today’s students for
the challenges of tomorrow.
Part of NCS Learn’s effort to continuously update its products
with the most up-to-the-minute content and multimedia technology,
the new release provides customers with 30 new lessons covering
various content areas in science and social studies. Two brand new
lessons in geography and three in physical science are featured
in the release, in addition to 25 lessons that have been completely
updated and converted to multimedia. These include five lessons
in government, five in history, five in economics, and 10 in biology.
“The NovaNET system is a great assistive tool for the classroom
teacher because it allows them to teach a multitude of students
at one time and take their students to new heights faster than they
could before. The students particularly love the lessons that use
multimedia to present concepts and theories that are otherwise difficult
for them to grasp. We’ve seen some great successes with it,
and we’re looking forward to enhancing our offering through
these new lessons,” said Dr. Linda Firestone, superintendent,
Northampton Area School District in Northampton, Pa.
The NovaNET system helps schools and districts meet key requirements
of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001: Reauthorization of the
Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). For example, the
NovaNET system’s integrated testing, assessment, student management,
and record-keeping tools help schools address increased demands
for testing, assessment, and accountability. In addition, the NovaNET
system uses proven, research-based methods that raise student achievement
in core subjects, helping educators and students meet rigorous standards
for academic improvement.
The NovaNET system offers cross-platform capability with Microsoft®
Windows® or Macintosh® operating systems. NovaNET is continuously
upgraded and enhanced throughout the year, providing customers with
the newest courseware and latest technology to meet the needs of
today’s schools.
The NovaNET fall 2002 release will ship to all current NovaNET
subscribers, at no additional charge, beginning in September. Customers
may deploy the new lessons, as well as the entire NovaNET library
of multimedia lessons, from the CD or from the NovaNET support Web
site.
The NovaNET system delivers the most comprehensive
interactive and engaging online curriculum, testing, assessment,
student management, and record-keeping, designed specifically for
middle and high school learners. NovaNET’s thousands of hours
of basic skills, middle and high school English, mathematics, science,
social studies and electives, ESL, GED preparation, SAT/ACT preparation,
life skills, school-to-work, and post-secondary curriculum and assessment
programs are aligned to national and state standards. Continuously
upgraded and enhanced, it continues to evolve to incorporate the
latest technology and meet the changing needs of education.
