Internet-Based Courseware Offers More Control and
Flexibility for Educators and Students
TUCSON, Ariz. - October 22, 2001 - Additional courses; real-time,
online consultations; broader platform capabilities; and access
to additional activities are the new benefits in the latest version
of SuccessMaker Internet from NCS Learn. The only Internet-enabled
solution to provide complete, proven curriculum with full reporting
and assessment capabilities, SuccessMaker Internet was introduced
last year and is today one of the most in-demand products from NCS
Learn.
"The beauty of SuccessMaker Internet is that it combines the
accessibility of Internet-delivered student data with the reliability
of locally-delivered courseware for students. This allows educators
to take advantage of award-winning curriculum and our state-of-the-art
management and assessment system, while dramatically lowering technology
requirements and costs," said Steve Gardner, NCS Learn vice
president of marketing and business development.
SuccessMaker Internet v2.0 improves upon the original version in
several ways. Six additional award-winning SuccessMaker® courses
are now available, for a total of 14 courses. Designed for students
in grades K-5, these new standards-based courses address lower-level
needs in mathematics, reading/language arts and ESL/bilingual/English
language development. Students are engaged in multimedia learning
activities, real-world simulations, and structured explorations
that automatically adjust to individual skill levels. The SuccessMaker
curriculum is correlated to national standards and objectives.
Some of SuccessMaker Internet v2.0's most significant upgrades
are in Results Manager, the state-of-the-art management and assessment
system that tracks students' performance and delivers personalized
learning pathways. Results Manager now offers a Lesson Set Editor
that allows teachers to edit, control and reorder content in certain
reading courses. The system also features a live help real-time
chat function so teachers or curriculum directors can discuss course
content and implementation planning with NCS Learn's Education Consultants.
Educators can access live help five days a week, from 10am to 7pm
EST, and with no restrictions on frequency of access.
In addition, a new Student ID field has been added to the registration
data so students can also be identified by an ID number as well
as by unique user names. Results Manager even reduces data entry
work by allowing administrators to import registration data from
other databases rather than entering the information manually.
SuccessMaker Internet's extensive collection of on-demand reports
facilitates the evaluation of students' learning strengths and weaknesses.
Teachers use the report data and assessments to develop targeted
intervention and remediation strategies. They are also able to provide
administrators and parents with up-to-the-minute information on
student, group and class performance. Similarly, administrators
can use report data to track school-wide course usage and progress
by grade or class.
Accuracy of reporting by differentiating between performance data
for standard courses and those that have been customized by teachers
is another improvement over v1.0. Educators now have options for
reporting on standard or custom courses or even a combination of
both. In addition, the option for creating reports by the Student
ID field rather than by student names facilitates statistical analysis
and enhances security of student data at the district or state level.
SuccessMaker Internet v2.0 offers Web sites for its subscribers,
through a "Resources" link in Results Manager. The Student
Web site provides access to math and reading activities that target
grades 3-5, and the Educator Web site contains course worksheets
available as PDF files. Customers are directed to the appropriate
Web site based on their user type.
SuccessMaker Internet is now compatible with both major platforms
used in the educational market. PC users can run the courseware
with Windows 95, 98, ME and 2000. Mac users are able to use Macintosh
OS 8.6 - 9.2.1. Courseware content servers supported include: Novell
Netware 4.1x or 5 (Windows clients only), Microsoft Windows NT Server
4.0 and Microsoft Windows 2000 Server. The product ships with Netscape
Navigator 4.78, Adobe Acrobat 5.0 and QuickTime 4.12
Current users of SuccessMaker Internet v1.0 will automatically
receive v2.0 conversion kits. The cost of the update is included
in the subscription price.
